Palm Beach Gardens aka PBG

We arrived in PBG on Wednesday, November 27, 5 days ahead of schedule, and in time for Thanksgiving! Our arrival was interesting - it was windy, the fairway is tight and the dock hand was useless. Eddie did great, as he slowly wiggled us into our home for the month. We are stern in as it would be easier to board. On our port side is Sea Joy, a 53’ Hatteras

and on our port side is, a 43’ Bertram.

Let’s just say there is no wasted space in this marina! Slips are crammed in!

This is the view off the bow. I have enjoyed watching the boat parade and especially watching the fishing boats dock.

This is standing on the bow of Seaquel looking toward port, the ICW is at the end of the fairway and so is the PBG Bridge. At first I heard every bell for opening and each announcement that the bridge was opening or closing. Now it’s just background sounds!

This is the view standing on the bow looking starboard. Those pinkish buildings house the marina office, a yacht broker and a few restaurants. We have only frequented Carmine’s marketplace - amazing upscale market with yummy salad bar and prepared foods as well as all sorts of fresh foods, dry goods and wine. If you’re from Baltimore think Santoni’s on steroids!

And this is the view from the stern of Seaquel. The buildings are condos. Nice to pull right up to your slip to unload groceries! That silver Ford Fusion has been our rental car for the month. She is a hybrid and we named her Shushie - she’s super quiet!

Our marina location has been perfect. Any store you could need is 5-10 minutes away - Publix, Trader Joe’s, Aldi, Costco, Home Depot, Lowes, West Marine, Harbor Freight! The marina itself has no sense of community. However, it’s 30 minutes to Eddie’s Dad and 35 to my parents. They are why we are here for the month.

What have we been up to this month? Projects, family and spending money!!! Eddie has installed a new AC unit for our cabin, replumbed the water lines with new strainer and pump, been working on a davit system, got the engine shut down system running, fire extinguishers, Halon system and large flybridge propane tanks re-certified, the water maker is up and running and tested and probably a dozen more small projects. He never stops!

I learned how to splice lines with a you tube video and made us a new anchor snubber. It’s not perfect but I’m pleased with my first spliced lines. I had to channel my Lindsey to get the weaving part!

We bought a vacuum sealer to store provisions in our new freezer. One year we got a laminator and I laminated everything in sight. Eddie teased the kids that if they weren’t careful I would laminate them. LOL I have been vacuum sealing everything!!!!

Both of our freezers are full, our under couch storage is full and we have a large garbage bag full of chips and snacks in the forward cabin. As we head to the Bahamas in a few days we have been told to bring EVERYTHING you need, food, cosmetics, spare parts etc. The Bahamas is super expensive and on top of that has a 14% tax rate. It’s been an interesting journey of hunting and gathering - not really knowing how much food we need for 3 - 4 months!

The real reason we are here is to spend time with our parents. Eddie’s Dad is 89 and my parents are 83 and 84. With our work schedules and raising 4 kids we haven’t had much time to spend with them for several years outside of a week here and a week there. We enjoyed two Thanksgiving dinners with both sides of the family, a visit from 3 of our 4 children which led to a brunch on the Zuskin side with all of Eddie’s sibs. So special to see the first cousins together. We celebrated our oldest’s birthday together - how can we have a 35 year old?!

So nice to be in my Mom’s kitchen on Thanksgiving. All the familiar smells of childhood!

 Delicious spread at Clunie Place!
Then second dinner at Amy & Ronny’s with the Zuskin side of the family!

Eddie has had the opportunity to go to lunch with his brother and Dad a few times and I have had that opportunity to hang out at the pool with my Dad. It’s so nice to be together. Cherishing every moment.

At the beautiful Gleneagles resort pool! Living the dream :)

We watched the Palm Beach Xmas boat parade with Eddie’s sister, Abby and boyfriend, Richard.

We have had several delicious meals at the Gleneagles Club and this week were treated to time with my brother Howard, his wife Mat and my niece Sarah. My Mom went above and beyond making Xmas dinner. We lit the Chanukah candles AND played Right Family Xmas. While it wasn’t our usual Xmas celebration it was sure a fun time.

Alas, I’m sorry to look at my camera roll and realize I didn’t take more pictures of my family. Have to do it again next year and remember to take pics too!

One thing we did on Sundays was visit the Green Market in Palm Beach. In my mind it was going to be like the 33rd St market or maybe the Baltimore Farmer’s Market. Not so. There were lots of kitschy craft vendors and several prepared food vendors but fresh produce was hard to find! I did find a vegan, gluten free baker with low or no sugar treats! And we did buy a door mat for either the boat or maybe Blue Indigo road which is made from recycled lobster nets.

Gorgeous orchids at the market.
