Prepping and packing this weekend

Will be meeting Captain Ron, not the one from the movie, on Sunday morning 8/28/16 in Ft Myers to provision and prepare to begin the journey across Florida through Lake Okechobee to Stuart to connect to the ICW, Intracoastal Waterway. Trip from Stuart, Fl to Norfolk Va is 987 statute miles then another 178 to our marina in Middle River.

Wednesday August 31,2016 Had appointment with mechanic for generator at 8:30am and by 9:30he had completed his diagnostics only to discover there had been a breaker switch in off position that was for the engine cooling water pump- back in business... until tonight, but I'll get to that. we left Stuart in hot and steamy weather at 11:15 am and ran til 5pm and due to a thunderstorm with 40mph winds we tucked behind Hole in the wall island. The picture of Capt Ron is not just to show off his good looks but to celebrate MM000 of the Atlantic ICW, 978 miles from Stuart, FL to Norfolk, VA so only 1000 miles to go at 8.5mph. ICW can seem monotonous so todays entertainment besides Cormarants, Dolphins and seagulls following as a group nearly in the cockpit looking for handouts were a number of cold showers on back deck, gotta keep the crew cool! Worked up a good appetite after TRX workout but unfortunately had technical problems with grill then more generator issues. Cooked...

Monday 9/12/16 Up early with the no-see-ums to catch the 0700 opening of the Wrightsville Beach Bascule Bridge at MM 285. An overcast morning after days of sunny 90 degree days. We had a true ICW moment when we were passing the Mason Inlet, we were in the right place but the bottom of the ICW was not. At Green 121 sands had shifted, called shoaling, and I could feel us bump the bottom and slow to a near stop. I pulled back throttles but we could see we were still moving at 1 knot of speed while dragging along bottom hunting for deeper water. We need 4'4" under the keel so were pleased to see a reading of 5' and we soon began moving without the feeling of dragging through the sand. Our next bit of excitement was a swing bridge that only showed 20' of clearance and we need 22'. It only opens on the half hour so it was worth creeping up to the depth board which showed over 24' due to the lowering tide. Great, lets go,  like we were getting away with not needin...

Catching Up

I guess I got lazy. Just realizing it’s been 5 days since I have posted anything. I’m going to try a catch up post. Could be long! Sugarloaf Island to Spooners Creek October 30,31 mm 210 Super short cruise into a pretty narrow entry anchorage. We are looking to hideout from the wind and will be here for two days. We took the dinghy to shore and walked to Ross, West Marine, Lowe’s, Staples and Walmart. First stop was Ross as Eddie left his long under armor pants home and was missing them, then onto West Marine so Eddie could get his new XtraTuff Boots. He has had boot envy of my boots and now we have matching ones! Stopped by Lowe’s for new drill bits, Staples to buy stamps and the Walmart where Eddie got a haircut and we re-provisioned. Made 10,000 steps for the first time in days    Right Hand in front of us passing under a bridge and sharing the bridge opening with the dredge!     Entering the anchorage at Spooners Creek.
