Catching Up
I guess I got lazy. Just realizing it’s been 5 days since I have posted anything. I’m going to try a catch up post. Could be long!
Sugarloaf Island to Spooners Creek
Super short cruise into a pretty narrow entry anchorage. We are looking to hideout from the wind and will be here for two days. We took the dinghy to shore and walked to Ross, West Marine, Lowe’s, Staples and Walmart. First stop was Ross as Eddie left his long under armor pants home and was missing them, then onto West Marine so Eddie could get his new XtraTuff Boots. He has had boot envy of my boots and now we have matching ones! Stopped by Lowe’s for new drill bits, Staples to buy stamps and the Walmart where Eddie got a haircut and we re-provisioned. Made 10,000 steps for the first time in days
Entering the anchorage at Spooners Creek. Pretty built up with condos and a marina.
This is the Spooner Creek Anchorage.
The winds kicked up and we spun in circles. Thank goodness for our strong holding anchor!

Was a chilly morning and we piloted from inside. Here is Eddie at the helm, the Garmin, one iPad running Navionics and the other running Aquamaps.
We passed by Emerald Isle where Eddie and the kids and I all have great memories of summer vacations.
Sadly we have seen many sunken shrimp boats on our travels. Lost dreams.
Two twin tugs passed us. Beautiful boats.
And my friends the pelicans. Easy to catch a picture when they are standing still. However, flying in front of the bow... I miss them every time!

This morning was another cold morning. We are wearing layers, smart wool sox and boots with our pajamas!
Everyday is something new. Some new sight, interesting boat or new skill. Today was all three!
Tons of hunters, guns on their boats and cages with dogs.
So many beautiful homes on the ICW and also lots painted in Easter egg colors.
This is local spot in Wilmington on our way to Carolina Beach. Fake palm tree, American flag and parking meter on an island known as the Diminishing Republic. Note, it’s only an island at low tide!
Local lore says it was a humorous stab at the climbing parking rates for visitors and is maintained by a secret society.
I didn’t get a picture but at times we were so close to the ocean that we could see kites, cars and waves!
Back to today’s new skill - grabbing the mooring ball. I had good practice from our trip to BVI in 2015 but we were on a cat where the bow is closer to the water AND I had my partner Swabbie to help. This time I was on my own with our new hook and moor tool. My palms were sweaty, what if I couldn’t reach it, what if i dropped the hook, what if I fell in... ta da, grabbed the hook, first try.
We stopped right before the mooring field ay Carolina Yacht Club / Joyner Marina for a pump out and water.
Keith and Deb picked us up and we dinghyed into town, walked on the beach and had yummy tacos at. Nollie’s Taco Joint. Felt great to get my feet in the sand and the ocean felt warm. Life is good.
What I know to be true - it’s too hard to remember the feelings from each day on a catch up blog. I do solemnly swear to write more frequently. In general, I am madly in love with Eddie and our cruising lifestyle. That about sums it up!
