Days 10 & 11
October 28 - 29, 2019
Days 10 and 11
MM 135 - 182
I'll start with yesterday - we awoke to another beautiful sunrise and pulled our anchor at 7:15. The cruise was calm as could be, at least in the early part of the trip! I love the marshes.
As we crossed the Pamlico Sound to the Neuse River our trip quickly became lively. First the winds were behind us and we were hobby horsing up and down the waves.
Waves were predicted to be 1'-2' but were definitely more like 3'. It wasn't for very long which is a good thing. Our girl Seaquel cruises like a champ but her crew isn't so comfortable in those seas. Then we turned to starboard and now we had beam seas. We went to a rolley ride.
Photo Cred to Keith for all the pics of Seaquel. TY Captain Keith!
Our destination was Oriental, NC where we anchored just on the other side of a bridge in Green's Creek. Oriental is a teeny town, I read population 900, cute homes and very clean, with a few shops and restaurants.
Once in Oriental, Deb and Keith came over for a little happy hour and then we dinghyed into town. Really friendly trash and recycling town with cans at the end of the dinghy dock and also all along our walk. Great for us as we had both trash and recycling! As always, felt good to get my feet on land and go for a walk. We toured the town, walked along the sea wall and then stopped for dinner at M&M’s Cafe.
MM 182-205
Short cruise today. We were headed to Beaufort, NC but winds were supposed to pick up and there are no great anchorages in Beaufort so we continued to Morehead City. Uneventful trip, a long stretch of no wake as we passed by some beautiful homes and docks.
We are anchored in The Bogue Sound off Sugarloaf Island year Morehead City Harbor for the night. With winds picking up tomorrow and blowing all day Thursday we will move to a more protected anchorage tomorrow and be hanging out for a couple of days.
We passed mm200 and it was a high of 81° today. We are headed in the right direction.
