New Smyrna to Titusville

Image
November 21 Mile Marker  846 - 878 We were up and on the move pretty early today. Both of us are happy that the weather is finally warming up and we cruised on the bridge in shorts and t-shirts. We had an easy, meandering cruise except for a 15 minute holding for a bascule bridge with current pushing us around.  This dock must have been damaged in the recent hurricanes. The birds don’t care!  ComingThrough Haulover Canal.   So hard to get the perfect shot of a pelican flying in front of the boat. I must have taken 10 pics trying. Then as soon as I put the camera down they fly across the bow! I swear they know! I’ll settle for the pics of the resting pelicans for now.  Sunset in Titusville.

Daytona and New Smyrna

November 19 - 20 Mile marker 778 - 846 We had a relaxing morning with a beautiful sunrise in St. Augustine while we waited for the 9am opening of the Bridge of Lions.  A little blurry but still cool, white pelican party on our starboard side.  Matanzas Inlet was reported to have lots of shoaling. However, we never saw less than 17’ and there was lots of dredging equipment along the way.  I guess the Captain is getting more comfortable with me at the helm. He even snoozed today! So much wildlife today in the marshes - dolphins, pelicans, herons, egrets. However, the area is getting more built up as we get further south and the marshes and homes are turning into high rises. 😢 The weird city of Daytona. We arrived at our selected anchorage on the south side of the twin bridges and I got totally creeped out - derelict boats, a sunken boat, what looked like abandoned boats tied together and an active sailboat that looked haunted...

St Simon to Sisters Creek to St Augustine

November 16-18, 2019 Mile marker 677 - 778 When we last left off we had been in St. Simons Island, Georgia. Our first night we were at anchor and the second night we stayed at the Morningstar Marina. Nice to be on land, get a long, hot marina shower and dinner out  at Crab Daddy’s recommended by my Dad. Yummy scallops for me and a seafood pasta dish for Eddie. We left there on Saturday, November 16. It was another rainy, windy morning as we headed across St Simons Sound and then Saint Andrews Sound. Saint Andrews was very sloppy until we entered the Cumberland River. We were headed to Fernandina Beach but decided to extend our cruise. The weather was terrible and we didn’t think we’d feel like touring Fernandina in cold rain. Instead, we cruised to Sisters Creek.  That’s where the real fun began. We were headed to a free dock that already had a sailboat and an American Tug on the dock. The Captain wanted to dock between them. It was windy with strong currents. Our ster...

The long and winding Georgia ICW

Image
11/14/19 Georgia, it’s like one big, long winding cruise through golden marshes. Today a power catamaran passed us and remarked that it was like being on a slalom course while skiing. They cruise at 20 knots, we cruise at 7 knots. I bet those turns do come up fast at 20 knots! Today is Thursday so I have to back up. My MacBook seems to have died at sea so I am typing on my iPad without a keyboard. Bit of a drag. Hopefully, when we get to Florida Apple can help me figure it out. I hope it can be revived and won’t require a burial at sea! On Sunday we left Charleston for an easy cruise to Beaufort, SC, pronounced Bewfort, and not to be confused with Beaufort, NC, pronounced Bōfort! Such a cute town.  I was most enamored with the trees and the Spanish moss.  Some more Dr. Seuss trees and some gorgeous live oaks.  We were able to get a spot on the free dock for a few hours. One cool tidbit is that Eddie has this exact picture from bringing the boat North 3 years ag...
