Patapsco to Waterhole Cove

September 22,  2018

We left Canton around 8am to cruise through the Knapp’s Narrows to Waterhole Cove. It was cloudy and the sun was trying to peak through.

We had a lovely cruise. The sun was playing hide and seek. Sweatshirt off, sweatshirt on. Sunglasses on, sunglasses off. Repeat! Calm seas!

I wanted to play with a new app called Nebo. Only thing is I forgot to start it when we left. 😢 I remembered about an hour north of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. It’s pretty cool, tracks our route and speed. Then sends me a report the following day. I can take pics in the app which would essentially give us a picture blog of the day. I will play more in the coming days. Take a look at yesterday.

We cruised thru the Knapp’s Narrows, very quaint area. Filled my heart up. I thought about the watermen a lot yesterday. We saw several boats out while we were underway. It’s not an easy life.

Here we are approaching the Knapp’s bascule bridge. Bridges are always fun!

Once we came thru the town we cruised  into the Choptank River. The water was really calm and of course there were more watermen and sailboats. Didn’t see any trawlers up this way.

We got ourselves settled, and by that l mean anchored in Waterhole Cove. The cove got it’s name because in the 1600s Captain John Smith brought his tall ship into the cove to fill his casks.  There was a natural under water spring that enabled him to get water without going ashore!

My captain was still up for more adventure. We dropped the dinghy and cruised into the town dock. The dock was so close we really could have swam in but the air is too cold to walk around in wet bathing suits.

Active Captain mentioned an antique shop in walking distance. Alas, it closed years ago! Instead we walked to a local bar on the bay. I know, right?! A bar of all places.  Lowes is a local, spot, bay front with a live band doing covers.  Hung out for a bit and walked back.

I was so intrigued by this farm machine. It was grinding up the corn stalks. I wanted a ride! Eddie was just upset that they let the corn die and were grinding it up!

Lowe’s Wharf where we encountered the St. Micael’s Class of 68 reunion! My captain thought that sounded OLD until he thought about it.  Only 4 years older then him!

Seaquel in the cove, viewed from the dinghy dock where our go fast dinghy is docked. Gotta think of a name for the dinghy!
